The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal alliance of seven of the world’s most advanced economies along with the European Union as a non-enumerated participant.
It was formed in 1975 in response to the oil crisis and initially consisted of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, known as the Group of Six (G6).
In 1976, Canada joined, making it the Group of Seven (G7).

Later, Russia joined in 1998, and the group was referred to as the G8, but Russia was suspended in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea, and it reverted back to G7.
