On June 5, 2025, India added two more wetlands to the prestigious list of Ramsar sites, taking the total number to 91.
The newly recognized sites are Khichan in Phalodi and Menar in Udaipur, both located in Rajasthan.
A Ramsar Site is a wetland area recognized under the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty adopted in 1971, for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.
