भीषण ठंड और घने कोहरे ने उत्तर भारत के बड़े हिस्से को अपनी चपेट में ले लिया है, जिसके कारण यह खबर आज सबसे ज़्यादा वायरल हो रही है। भारतीय मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) ने दिल्ली-एनसीआर, पंजाब, हरियाणा, उत्तर प्रदेश, राजस्थान, बिहार और मध्य प्रदेश के कुछ हिस्सों के लिए चेतावनी जारी की है।

कई शहरों में दृश्यता 50 मीटर से भी कम हो गई है, जिससे सड़क यातायात, रेल सेवाएं और हवाई उड़ानें बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई हैं। कई ट्रेनें घंटों की देरी से चल रही हैं, हाईवे पर वाहनों की लंबी कतारें लग रही हैं और दिल्ली के IGI एयरपोर्ट सहित कई हवाई अड्डों पर उड़ानें रद्द या विलंबित हुई हैं। कोहरे के कारण सड़क दुर्घटनाओं में भी बढ़ोतरी देखी गई है।

यह ठंड हिमालयी क्षेत्रों से आ रही ठंडी उत्तर-पश्चिमी हवाओं के कारण और तेज़ हो गई है। हिमाचल प्रदेश, उत्तराखंड और जम्मू-कश्मीर में ताज़ा बर्फबारी हो रही है, जिससे मैदानी इलाकों में सर्दी और बढ़ गई है। कई शहरों में रात का तापमान सामान्य से नीचे चला गया है।

डॉक्टरों और स्वास्थ्य विभाग ने बुज़ुर्गों, बच्चों और सांस या हृदय रोग से पीड़ित लोगों को विशेष सावधानी बरतने की सलाह दी है। कुछ राज्यों में छात्रों की सुरक्षा को देखते हुए स्कूलों का समय बदल दिया गया है।
