Sattriya is a classical Indian dance form that originated from the monasteries (Satras) of Assam.
It was introduced in the 15th century by Vaishnavite saint Sankardeva for religious expression and storytelling.
Traditionally performed by male monks (Bhakats), it is an essential part of Satra culture.
Sattriya includes elements of nritta (pure dance), nritya (expressive dance), and natya (drama).
In the year 2000, it was recognized as one of the eight classical dance forms of India by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Sattriya is known for its use of mudras (hand gestures), padas (footwork), and abhinaya (facial expressions).
Dancers wear traditional Assamese costumes, along with ornate jewelry and headgear.
Its music is based on classical ragas and is performed using khol (drum), taals (cymbals), and flute.
Over time, Sattriya has evolved and is now performed by both men and women across various cultural platforms.

सत्त्रिया भारत का एक शास्त्रीय नृत्य है, जिसकी उत्पत्ति असम के मठों (सत्रों) में हुई थी।
इसे वैष्णव संत श्रीमंत शंकरदेव ने 15वीं शताब्दी में धार्मिक अभिव्यक्ति और कहानी कहने के माध्यम के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया।
यह नृत्य प्रारंभ में भक्त भिक्षुओं (भकतन) द्वारा किया जाता था और सत्र संस्कृति का अहम हिस्सा रहा है।
इसमें नृत्त (शुद्ध नृत्य), नृत्य (भावनात्मक नृत्य) और नाट्य (नाटकीय तत्व) शामिल होते हैं।
2000 में इसे संगीत नाटक अकादमी द्वारा भारत के आठ शास्त्रीय नृत्यों में मान्यता दी गई।

सत्त्रिया नृत्य में हस्त मुद्राएँ, पद संचालन (पदों) और अभिनय (चेहरे के भावों) का विशेष महत्व है।
नर्तक पारंपरिक असमिया पोशाक, आभूषण और सिर का आभूषण पहनते हैं।
संगीत शास्त्रीय रागों पर आधारित होता है और खोल (ढोल), ताल (झांझ) और बांसुरी जैसे वाद्य यंत्रों का उपयोग होता है।
समय के साथ, यह नृत्य पुरुषों और महिलाओं दोनों द्वारा विभिन्न सांस्कृतिक मंचों पर प्रस्तुत किया जाने लगा है।
