The Rakhigarhi site is one of the most prominent and significant settlements of the Indus Valley Civilization, situated in the Hisar district of Haryana, India. This ancient city is located in the Sarasvati river plain, approximately 27 kilometers away from the seasonal Ghaggar river. Due to its archaeological importance, the Global Heritage Fund declared Rakhigarhi as one of the top 10 most endangered heritage sites in Asia.

A joint excavation team of Indian and South Korean researchers uncovered various remains from this site, including a fire altar, parts of a city wall, and drainage structures, along with a hoard of semi-precious beads. These findings indicate that Rakhigarhi had a well-planned urban infrastructure and was an important center of trade and culture during the Harappan period.

Apart from Rakhigarhi, several other important Harappan sites have been discovered:

Harappa, located in Sahiwal district of present-day Punjab in Pakistan, was situated near the Ravi River.
Mohenjodaro, in Larkana district of Sindh in Pakistan, developed along the banks of the Indus River.
Chanhudaro, another Harappan site in Nawabshah district of Sindh, Pakistan, also lay close to the Indus River.
In India, Lothal was located near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, by the Bhogava River. This site is especially famous for its dockyard, indicating maritime trade.
Kalibangan, in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, was located along the Ghaggar River.
Banawali, situated in Fatehabad district of Haryana, was also associated with the Ghaggar River.
Dholavira, one of the most remarkable sites, is located in the Kutch region of Gujarat and was near the Luni River.

These sites collectively reveal the expanse, urban planning, and cultural depth of the Harappan civilization, which flourished around 2500 BCE.
