On June 5, 2025, India was elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) for a two-year term starting in 2026 and ending in 2028. ECOSOC is one of the six principal organs of the UN and plays a vital role in policy recommendations on global economic, social, and environmental matters. It is also responsible for coordinating the work of the UN’s specialized agencies and promoting the goals of sustainable development worldwide.
