Tripitaka is a sacred word in Buddhism meaning "Three Baskets." It refers to the ancient scriptures of the Buddhists which were traditionally written on palm leaves and stored in three separate baskets.

The term "Tripitaka" comes from Sanskrit and represents the three divisions of Buddhist scriptures:

1. Vinaya Pitaka – Rules for monks and nuns.

2. Sutta Pitaka – Teachings of the Buddha.

3. Abhidhamma Pitaka – Philosophical and psychological analysis.

These scriptures form the core of the Theravāda Buddhist canon and are used in many other Buddhist traditions. They contain teachings on ethics, meditation, wisdom, and spiritual practices.

Important terms in Buddhism include:

• Buddha: "Enlightened one", who has attained Nirvana.
