On June 8, 2025, the world will celebrate United Nations World Oceans Day in Nice, France, just ahead of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference.
The theme for 2025 is: "Wonder: Sustaining what sustains us", highlighting the oceans’ role in sustaining life on Earth and urging global action to protect them.
The United Nations General Assembly, through resolution 63/111 on December 5, 2008, officially declared June 8 as World Oceans Day.
The idea was first proposed at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
