Explanation (English)

The Panchayati Raj System is a form of local self-government in rural India. It allows people to participate in decision-making at the village level. It was introduced to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.

The Panchayati Raj System is based on the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992, which came into effect on 24 April 1993. This amendment added Part IX and Articles 243 to 243-O to the Constitution and provided for a three-tier system of local government.
