Explanation (English)

The Speaker of Lok Sabha is the presiding officer and the most important authority in the Lok Sabha. The Speaker conducts the business of the house, maintains order, and ensures discipline. The Speaker is elected from among the members of Lok Sabha.

The office of the Speaker is mentioned under Article 93 of the Constitution.

• Elected by the members of Lok Sabha

• Holds office until the term of Lok Sabha lasts or until another Speaker is elected

• Can resign by giving written notice to the Deputy Speaker

• Can be removed by a resolution passed by a majority of Lok Sabha members
