On June 12, 2025, Ustad Ghulam Nabi Shah, the legendary Kashmiri folk singer known affectionately as Hamle Bulbul, passed away.
He was widely respected for his deep connection to Kashmiri Lok Sangeet (folk music) and for preserving the traditional musical heritage of the region.
In 2011, he was honored with the Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Award for his outstanding contribution to the cultural and musical landscape of Kashmir.
His demise marks the loss of one of the last icons of classical Kashmiri folk music.
